Marcel Hebing

Prof. Dr. Marcel Hebing

How can we use data to make better decisions – as individuals, in organisations and for our society? This is the central question in Marcel's work, both in his role as a scientist and as an entrepreneur.

Marcel is professor of data science at the Digital Business University of Applied Sciences (DBU), founder of Impact Distillery (mStats DS GmbH) and kaleidemoskop GmbH, and associate researcher at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG).

Marcel is currently working on:

  1. a digital twin of the German society (BMBF-funded project InnoTwin),
  2. a framework for robust decision-making and evidence-based strategies (exploratory modelling and analysis, EMA),
  3. predictive models for sustainable corporate governance (ESG forecasting), and
  4. normative frameworks for the use of AI in companies and society.

His professional background in sociology, statistics and business informatics gives him a special perspective on the benefits of data in social discourse and the sustainable management of companies.

Previously, Marcel has worked for seven years as a researcher and software developer at the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin).
